Last Updated: September 29, 2026
This policy explains how Marker for Creators handles your data in the Marker app for iPhone and Apple Watch, in the Marker Companion desktop app and on markerforcreators.com.

The Short Version
Marker is cloud-based: your sessions and markers are stored in your Marker account, so they are available on all your devices and in the Companion app. We use analytics to improve Marker, and we never sell your data. We measure our advertising with Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork, which never identifies you personally, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Information We Collect
1. Your Marker Account
Marker's core features, such as syncing your sessions between the Marker app and the Companion app, require a Marker account. You can sign in with Apple, with Google or with your email address and a password. We store your account details (such as your email address, name and profile settings), your sessions and markers, your purchases and the information needed to provide your plan on your devices. With Sign in with Apple, you can choose to hide your email address using Apple's relay service.
2. Your Sessions
Your sessions are stored in your Marker account and on your devices, so they stay in sync between the Marker app and the Companion app. Your sessions are your creative work: we do not sell them or use them for advertising, and we only access them to provide Marker's features or when you ask us for support.
3. Analytics and Error Reports
We use PostHog, with servers in the EU, to understand how Marker is used and to find and fix errors. This includes information about feature usage, your device and app version, and error reports. When you are signed in, this data is linked to your account so we can help you with support requests. In certain cases, we use masked session replays to improve the user experience and to find bugs.
4. Purchases
In-app purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Purchases on our website are processed by Paddle, which acts as the reseller (merchant of record) and handles payment, taxes and invoices. We never see your full payment details. We use RevenueCat to manage your subscription status and purchase history across your devices.
5. Advertising Measurement
We run ads on platforms like Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and TikTok to reach new creators. To see whether these ads work, we use Apple's SKAdNetwork, the measurement service Singular and the Meta SDK. SKAdNetwork reports are anonymous, delayed and aggregated. The app also reports in-app events such as install, trial started and purchase, together with technical device information, to Singular and Meta so we can measure and optimize our campaigns. These events never include your session content, your name or your email address. We do not use Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA) and do not show a tracking permission popup, because we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
6. Creator Affiliate Program
If you discovered Marker through one of our partner creators, we attribute your installation and purchases to that creator so they receive credit. For this, we use technical information about the creator link you used and your app installation, which we process on our own servers solely to credit the right creator and to prevent abuse. This information is never shared with advertising platforms, and creators never see your name or contact details.
7. Emails and Notifications
We send you emails that are necessary for your account and your purchases, such as verification, password and purchase emails. Tips, product news and offers are optional: depending on the law of your country, we send them only with your consent or until you opt out. You can change your choice in the app at any time, and every marketing email contains an unsubscribe link. We keep a record of your choice as required by law. Our emails contain no tracking pixels. The app can also send push notifications, which you can turn off in your device settings.
8. Support, Surveys and Feedback
If you contact us, answer a survey, send us feedback or sign up for a beta or a waitlist, we use the information you provide only to respond to you and to improve Marker.
9. Marker Companion App
The Companion app works with your video files locally on your computer and exports your markers to your editing software. Your video files are never uploaded. The Companion app uses your Marker account for sync and the same analytics and error reports as the Marker app.
10. Our Website
We use Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that we host ourselves in the EU. It does not use cookies and does not store your IP address. When you log in on our website, your login session is stored in your browser, and purchases on our website are handled by Paddle.
Google User Data (Sign in with Google)
If you choose Sign in with Google, we receive your name, your email address and your Google account ID from your Google Account. We only request Google's basic sign-in permissions (openid, email, profile) and do not access any other Google data, such as Gmail, Drive, Contacts or Calendar.
How we use it: We use this data only to create and manage your Marker account, to sign you in, to sync your sessions across your devices, to link your purchases to your account and to contact you about your account.
How we store and protect it: The data is stored in your Marker account in Google Firebase and is encrypted in transit and at rest. We never receive your Google password and do not store Google access tokens on our servers.
Who we share it with: We do not sell Google user data, do not use it for advertising and do not use it to train AI models. We only share it with service providers that help us operate Marker, such as hosting, subscription management, payment processing, analytics and email delivery, and where the law requires it.
Retention and deletion: We keep this data as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings, Manage Account, Delete Account, or by contacting us. You can also remove Marker's access in your Google Account settings.
Service Providers
We do not sell, trade or rent your personal data. We work with service providers that process data on our behalf, in particular Google Firebase (accounts, sync and cloud infrastructure), Apple (App Store and Sign in with Apple), RevenueCat (subscription management), Paddle (website purchases), PostHog (analytics, EU), Singular, Meta and TikTok (advertising measurement) and Resend (email delivery), as well as hosting, content delivery and embedded video providers. If you use team features, your team members can see your name.
International Data Transfers
Some service providers process data outside the EU, for example in the USA. In these cases we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Legal Basis (EU/EEA Users)
We process your data to provide Marker and your purchases (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), to meet legal obligations such as tax rules (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR), and based on our legitimate interests in improving and securing Marker, measuring our advertising, crediting partner creators and sending service emails (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Marketing emails are based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) or, where the law of your country allows it, on our legitimate interest in direct marketing; you can object at any time.
Data Security
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest in our cloud database, and only you can access your account data in the app. We never transmit your session content to advertising platforms.
Data Retention
We keep your data as long as your account exists or as long as it is needed for the purposes described above. When you delete your account, we delete your account data and your synced sessions. We keep certain records where this is needed for accounting, legal obligations, security and the improvement of Marker, for example your purchase history.
Your Rights and Choices
You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings, Manage Account, Delete Account, change your email preferences in the app and turn off push notifications in your device settings. If you are in the EU/EEA, you have the right to access, rectify, erase and port your data, to restrict its processing, to object to processing based on legitimate interests and to withdraw your consent at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. California residents have the right to know what we collect and to request deletion; we do not sell personal information.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We will update the date above and post the new policy when changes occur, and notify you in the app about material changes.
